True Fate

By Alexandra Quinones

Trapped unable to feel anything but emptiness within her beating heart, eyes catching a gaze of a sight something and her hair flows with the soft gentle breeze. The sky is dark, the wind is strong, hearing whispers of distant creatures lingers then fades as she walks the pale marked road curious of true fate………… Each breath creates a warm cloud of air, skin beginning to become colder continuing to walk through the shadowed, misty, abyss. Feeling a dark presence following, watching, wondering what is going on she turns around, and tries to spot something anything but nothing appears to be there, she keeps walking now suddenly struck with fear. Heartbeat now increasing breathes deeper…… Thoughts run through her mind, what is following me? Does it intend on harming me? Trembling and watching her every move she gazes up at the full moon hoping that worst is not coming to her. Sounds of the souls warn her trying to scare her so that she does not fall to the same fate as they had; the sound of branches snapping frightens her even more. Running quickly to hide, she trips over a tree root; sitting up beginning to brush off the dirt and leaves she realizes her ankles broken, turning now to see a pale gentleman kneeling beside her............ He reaches out to her, she takes his hand and they both stand facing each other their eyes meet, she glances away, he watches and gently places his hand on her rosy cheek. Now placing her hand over his she looks back into his eyes, the color a dark hazel brown, almost like the color of caramel; his hair curly and straight but shoulder length; the color is hard to make out it looks like a blackish brown color. Trying to walk away she finds herself weak and begins to trip over her own feet, he catches her before she falls, gazing at her beautiful face he long wants to have her embrace, but he helps her walk, now keeping her safe, by bringing her to another place. She awaken in a dark room lit with tiny wall candles, her ankle wrapped and clean, her slippers still on her feet he black gown clean, her hair still silky and long, the environment unknown to her. Sitting up the small quilt that was warming her slides down her body, she looks around the room and notices there is a note on the pillow beside her she reads it, “Thought you might want to be left alone, hope you enjoy the room, it is yours until the time that you intend on leaving”

Walking over to the wide closet, she spies a long dress, the color a dark plum purple; the thin straps , with short white sleeves that uncover the shoulders, skirt flowing down to the floor, an upside down V design shows off the white laced over with black slip beneath. Without hesitation she changes into the dress, surprisingly it fits to her slim figure……..Now walking down a dark corridor only lit by wall candelabras she hears the most soothing sound. Following the sound she comes to a door, its open just a crack, she peaks through the door it’s the gentleman that helped her, he plays this instrument with such emotion each stroke over the strings allow a dark flowing sound to travels, creating a calm atmosphere, she steps back, the floor board creaks and his playing stops….He gets up placing his instrument against the wall making sure that it does not fall. Quickly glancing at the door he sees her peaking in, he makes a gesture inviting her in, she enters the room……..Walking toward him with such curiosity she feels a strong aura. Is it coming from him? She wonders, now being drawn to him. His eyes now a light green color, she hugs him, “thank you, for helping me Claude, I probably would not have survived on my own”, her voice is weak and tears roll down her cheeks, he hugs her back and holds her head against his chest. Both of their eyes now closed, minds cleared, and all eternity fades until light become shadows……..A candle is lit the wax slowly melting, the flame brings light to the room, the shadows surround the light, the redness in the flame the dripping of the wax. Walking over to a small sofa they sit together, speaking of their truths, and both gasping at each surprising word from the thought that has changed in their minds. She walks toward the closed window feeling the way she never felt before, the comfort of a stranger in new to her, although conversing with others seems more difficult than it was......
